ABOUT DIRECTOR

Sahara Sharma is a New York based Nepali independent filmmaker. She is CEO of Gauthali Entertainment, a feminist media company. Sahara is currently writing her first international co-production feature ‘Ek Mutthi Badal’ (My Share of Sky). The project was selected at Locarno Open Doors Consultancy (2021), Indian film Bazaar co-production market (2021) where it won the Rotterdam Lab (2022) award. It is currently selected and in the running for West Meets East Screenplay Lab at Dhaka International Film Festival, Bangladesh (2024).

Sahara’s first TV film, ‘Chasing Rainbows’ (2013) exploring sexuality, migration, and depression amongst  Nepali youth, opened the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (2013) and won top awards. Her TV series- ‘Gauthali ka Kathaharu’ (2017-18), and ‘Maya Bhanne Cheez Estai Ho’ (2018-19) are critically acclaimed for discussing women’s rights, and their sexual, mental health.

ABHIMANYU DIXIT

Abhimanyu Dixit is a filmmaker, campaigner, and educator, recognized as a Rotterdam Lab 2022 alumni, and recipient of multiple awards in Nepali film festivals around the world. With over a decade of experience in Nepal’s Cinema, he is the COO of Gauthali Entertainment, a feminist media company that he runs with his business partner, Sahara Sharma.

Starting his career as a film campaigner, Abhimanyu has worked as a film festival coordinator for Nepal Cine Symposium (2012) and Programming Director for Ekadeshma International Short Film Festival (2016). Additionally, he contributes regularly as a faculty member at the film and media studies department of Kathmandu University and as a reviewer for the English broadsheet daily, the Kathmandu Post.

Gauthali Entertainment

Gauthali Entertainment, is a woman-owned & run feminist cinema company based in Kathmandu Nepal. We specialize in filmmaking, campaigning, and film education. We also actively engage in talk shows, film festivals, and film campaigns, collaborating with Kathmandu University to support emerging talent and amplify women’s voices through the ‘Women Telling Women’s Stories’ campaign.  With a strong focus on promoting gender equality and empowering women, we have made a significant impact on the Nepali film industry through our feature/ short films and series.
