Gauthali Talks is a series of round-table discussion on various socio-cultural factors that shape the present day Nepali society.

The first season of Gauthali Talks focussed on Cinema, Media, Fashion, and Activism. The season completed in 2020, and had 10 episodes with eminent personalities.

Episode 1
We deconstruct The Nepali Cinema Heroine or अभिनेत्रीies both on and off the screen- with film makers, producers, actors, and technicians. 

We’re in conversation with professionals from Nepali cinema, featuring, in ascending order of their first names:

Loonibha Tuladhar has a vast array of experiences as an actor in Nepali theater, TV and Cinema. She has also produced/ directed Documentaries. 
Paramita RL Rana is a young social media activist with fresh perspectives on the contemporary Nepali Cinema Industry. 
Priyanka Karki works in Nepali cinema as an Actor, and Producer. She has recently worked as a Writer, Producer and Director in a web Series.
Rakshya Singh Rana is one of the first female editors in Nepali cinema, she is a Director, and also the Chairperson of Director’s Guild.
Reeccha Sharma has been an Actor in Nepali cinema for over 10 years. She is also working as a Producer of feature length commercial films. 
Renasha Bantawa Rai is a celebrated choreographer with over a decade of experience, and is recently a Director.
Sahara Sharma is an independent film writer, and director. She has worked as a producer, and director in two Nepali TV series. 

Avash Karmacharya, the host has experience as a film journalist, and film critic primarily in the Nepali print media. He is a poet, photographer, and artist. He works in the social sector. 

Episode 2
This episode of Gauthali talks is almost like a masterclass. We’re in conversation with seniors of Nepali cinema. We learn about Independent filmmaking, the topics we choose, the Industry in front of us, and also what to look forward to in the future. 

The conversation features 

Tsering Rhitar Sherpa: Director of Mukundo, Karma, and Uma, he is one of the pioneers of Nepali Independent cinema, he has worked as a Director and Producer, and has paved a way forward for the next generation of filmmakers. 

Deepak Rauniyar: Director of White Sun, and Highway- one among the first filmmakers who has proved that the international film festivals are not beyond reach.

In this edition of, Gauthali talks, we explore the world of Nepali Fashion with prominent figures of Nepali fashion. 

In conversation with 

Raj Bhai Suwal is one of the pioneers of Fashion Photography, he has a vast body of work in Analog, or DIgital cameras- and has been a mentor to many contemporary photographers nationally and internationally.  
Malvika Subba has a range of experience in TV, Print, and Advertising, she has worked an an editor in a fashion magazine and is sought after to judge/ organize/consult for various beauty pageants, and fashion related events nationally and internationally.   
Milan Lama One of the most in demand after fashion photographers of the contemporary lot. 
Manish Rai is one of the sought after Nepali fashion designers. 
Sanish Shakya Contemporary Male Model, and works as a choreographer for various pageants,  as well as ramp events. 
Lemi Tamang Contemporary makeup artist who works nationally as well as internationally. 
Sabita Karki Contemporary Model and winner of India’s Next Top Model- has a vast array of work Nationally and Internationally.

Binod Paudel is an educator, writer, and director. He is the principal at Oscar Film School. His films Sanghuro (writer) and Bulbul (Director) has been critically acclaimed. 
Bishal Sapkota has been working as a writer in Nepali cinema Industry.  Sapkota’s debut film Selfie King was recently released to rave reviews. 
Karma has been working in cinema as an actor since the dawn of Nepali digital cinema. He has immense experience in Nepali commercial, and independent cinema as well as Nepali Theater.

In this edition of Gauthali Talks, we talk to young independent filmmakers who have a bright future ahead of them. 

Filmmakers (in Alphabetical Order) Aneel Neupane, Bibhu Poudel, Bikas Neupane, Kedar Shrestha,  Sahara Sharma. Sahayog Raj Adhikari, and Sampada Malla are in conversation with Abhimanyu Dixit to discover how young Nepali film makers see Nepali cinema today.  

Episode 6
This edition of Gauthali talks takes an extensive look at cinema criticism in Nepal.  We’re in conversation with filmmakers who have been professionally involved as film critics and academicians. 

The conversation features: 

Dipendra Lama: The Director of ‘Ghaam Paani’, ‘Gopi’ as well as ‘Cha Maya Chapakkai’, Lama started his career as a film journalist in the early years of Nepali digital cinema. 
Abinash Bikram Shah: Writer, and Director Abinash Bikram Shah is invited in this talk film academician. Shah has helped bring forth the dawn of Nepal’s to Nepal’s independent film. Shah contributes as a screenplay and direction teacher in various film schools in Nepal.

In this edition of Gauthali Talks, we discuss writing in Nepal. We have writers from almost all medium- Literature, Cinema, Journalism, Online, and Podcast.

Bhrikuti Rai is Boju from Boju-Bajai, a podcast that we love. Besides running a podcast, she also raises  important contemporary issues as a professional journalist. 
Durga Karki is a published author. She also writes important issue based essays in online news-portals. And she’s also a professional lawyer. 
Khagendra Lamicchane writes films, as well as theater plays. He is also an actor, and has recently directed a feature length film.

Gauthali Talks Film Festivals

In this edition of Gauthali Talks, we talk to the young representatives of film festivals in Nepal. The young film festival professionals are also film makers, and film professionals. Featuring, in ascending order of their first names:

Jesselina is a human rights lawyer and social impact entrepreneur. 3 years ago she started the @nepalifeminist page on Instagram- a social media advocacy page looking to create a safe space for conversation on a variety of intersectional feminist issues.
Rukshana is a Transgender Rights Activist vocal about SOGIESEC issues, Feminism, Language & Linguistics and Rights of Indigenous People. She primarily works in the sector of writing and creating resources on SOGIESEC in Nepali and Nepal Bhasa, and has published many dictionaries in this regard. She is actively involved in legislative changes for the queer population in Nepal.
Shristi is an artist based in Kathmandu. Her work explores ideas of memory and nostalgia. She is currently teaching and is associated with photo.circle. She received her BA in Studio Art from Mount Holyoke College, in 2015.
Bridhika leads Dalit Lives Matter Nepal, a social movement to create a just society where every Nepali can enjoy life without the fear of being persecuted in the name of caste. It is an initiative to counter and fight back all forms of caste-based discrimination and untouchability – a collective intervention to ensure every right of every single Nepali citizen as guaranteed in the Constitution of Nepal.

#DalitLivesMatterNepal is a connection with people to build a collective force and amplify people’s power to eradicate any inequality, discrimination, and violence based on the caste system.

Exploring our Subtle Nepali Traits
In this session, Gauthali Talks to young boys- Prajwal Dhakal, Bik, Saurav Bhandari, Prawesh Dahal, and Mukesh Ghimire. 

Conversations range from why we do certain things, why we react in certain ways, and things that we as young Nepalis have learned over the years, and things that we have to unlearn.
