Gauthali Entertainment conducts a five-day online workshop titled Cinema as an Archive of the Present: Writing and Directing the Women of Today, led by filmmaker Sahara Sharma.

The workshop brings together young storytellers who want to understand how film can capture women’s lives with honesty, care and attention.

Participants include Deepshikha Shrestha, Oree Prasain, Shreya Gautam, Bipin Rajbanshi, Sivasha K.C., Salin Shrestha, Sujal Shrestha, Suyasha Priyadarshini Adhikary and Yugal Sitaula.

The goal of this workshop is to help young storytellers see that Nepali cinema grows only when we tell stories that truly represent us, and when filmmakers learn to work with care, sensitivity and responsibility. When we look at Nepal’s cinema, we often do not see ourselves or the women in our lives. The women we know, the lives we live, the truth we carry, they are missing. Through this workshop, we encourage young filmmakers to slow down, observe closely and learn to film with care. If we make images with honesty, we can build a cinema that finally looks like us.

This vision comes alive through Sahara Sharma’s teaching, which forms the heart of the program.

Sahara begins by asking participants to think about real women from their lives. Her sessions guides the students to explore the truth of the character. As the workshop moves forward, Sahara shows how written characters begin to live on screen. She teaches how directors observe, how images carry memory and how simple visual choices reveal a character’s inner life. She encourages students to look again at everyday life, to notice what most people ignore and to treat filmmaking as an act of careful attention.
